The Paisleys.

When a lady known as doctor daisy found out that mothers of sons were sending them to war, she came up with the idea of making a Mothers of Empire badge. She had a special interest in children and women's well being. This is when Dr daisy thought that mothers who had sent their children to war should wear a special badge. The paisleys were a family of five, with three sons and the mother and the father. Agnes Paisley (mother) had sent her three sons to war, saying goodbye to them and maybe not even knowing if she would see them again. The three sons all enlisted early, they were farmers from Otago determined to serve. But sadly, none of the boys returned home. But sadly, none of the boys returned home.

Quality blog post

In Te Ngahere we have been doing math around perimeters. We have been learning about what perimeters. I learnt that a perimeter is a boundary. We have been looking at different objects in the classroom and trying to figure out what a perimeter is. I am not completely sure about this but I think just about everything is a perimeter. I am still learning this too guys. This is completely new to me. I have made a slideshow showing how to do this so if you want you could go check it out or me. In the comment section after you looked through my slideshow could you please answer my question. Did you learn anything?

What I enjoy doing in my own Time

Kia ora im a Yr 8, and I go to Paihia School. I am Posting about what I do in my own time at home and at school. Let’s first start of with what I do at home in my own time, when i’m at home and i’m bored I play fortnite or I go to my mates and we either go for a swim or go to town and hang out. Now let me tell you about  what I do in my own time at school I play basketball with my friends, I play soccer with the little kids and it is so much fun playing with the little kids and making them laugh and just enjoy life while their young. What I think I can work on is my soccer skill like kicking the ball straight and finding a gap for me to get through and score a goal. What I think I could do better in basketball is time my shots so they go straight into the hoop. I also love playing basketball and hope I get into the Golden State Warriors basketball team when i’m older.

Those first 2 extravagant days upon school of 2020

Those first 2 extravagant days upon school of 2020

Hi for those who don’t know me my name is Rikki-Dean I am a Yr 8 student in Te Ngahere at Paihia School. Today im blog posting about what we did the first 2 days of school in 2020. We had a powhiri to welcome new people and whanau to our loving and caring school. Eventually me and my mates from last year connected with new students and made new friends with the people that had just started our school. Then we met new teachers that will be working at our school for the rest of the term. After the new students and old students from Paihia School got to know each other we got started into our school work and worked until one point of the day a new teacher in Te Ngahere  taught us how to play turbo touch. It was a good opportunity for me to play because I get really delighted and joyful when me and my mates have fun playing in the same team and just getting along. I really hope i’m going to have a good term this term and be a excellent role model for our taina so when they get to this point in there lives they will be perfect role models for the next children that start our school. What i’m looking forward to is going to technology and learning how to cook and craft amazing arts and crafts.
Thank you for reading.
bye.

Swim Safe

In Te Ngahere Tracy came in to talk to us about swim safe on boats and at the beach with your friends and family. I am posting what is safe to wear on a boat. I learnt that it is safe to wear a lifejacket on a boat because if the boat flips and it is over you, you can drown. If you were to wear a lifejacket you would be safe and secure to stay alive. I also learnt that it is good to take flares on your boat so if your boat breaks down in the middle of the ocean you can shoot some flares in the sky and someone can come and rescue you. Tracy also told us to take a waterproof phone with us just in case the same thing happens, if your boat breaks down; you can call someone to come get you. You can use this just in case you don’t have flares. I enjoyed having Tracy come talk to us about this and teaching our class something new.  I liked having Tracy here because my mates who don’t how to stay safe learnt something so I can help them when they are in danger.

Learning proper Haka

In Te Ngahere the kapa haka roopu were learning the proper Ngapuhi haka. We were learning the proper song and the proper speed for the haka. It was hard at first because we were all to slack to pronounce the kupu until we heard the haka on a phone and then we started picking up how to pronounce the kupu. When we started pronouncing the kupu properly we practiced the kupu to see what we needed to learn. When we were done our kapa haka tutors started teaching the whole school. Next time we are going to carry on learning it and we are going to learn the actions and the whole meaning behind the Ngapuhi haka. What I found challenging was pronouncing the kupu and what speed we were supposed to be going. I can not wait until we learn the whole haka and actions.

Steam Challenge

The first day of school we did a STEAM challenge. In STEAM we were making a free standing tower with a limited amount of materials. The materials we used to make the free standing object was 2 sheets of newspaper and 30 cm of tape, we had 20 minutes to plan and to make our experiment. My group had a bit of trouble until a teacher came to help us get ideas for our design. I learned that if you use more materials wisely you will have more than enough to make your experiment taller and be able to stand easier. I also learned that if you work with your group you can get more stuff finished fast. I found this hard because of how much time and materials we had and I found it helpful that a teacher  helped us do our design.
