How Kupe got to New Zealand
In Te Ngahere we have been learning about history about Kupe, Nukutawhiti, James cook and Abel Tasman my group was write about Kupe. When kupe discover New Zealand it was in the late 905AD when something was taking all there fish in his homeland Hawaiki. He eventually found out that the Te Wheke-A-Muturangi was taking all their Kai Moana and he wanted to slotter Te Wheke. He followed Te Wheke to a place now called New Zealand. That's why Kupe is one of the most important people of Aotearoa and to us known as Ngapuhi. On his arrival in New Zealand he found Te Wheke in a place called Cook Straight when it seeked refuge in a shelter and he slotter it. Nukutawhiti came back to Aotearoha on Mata Haorua to take back more people. Kupe is a great chief of Hawaiki. He was the first polynesian to wonder upon a country his wife named Aotearoa and he found Aotearoa on a waka named Mata Haorua. Know known as Ngatokimatawhaorua that most of us Ngapuhi came from or mostly all us Ngapuhi come of. Kupes influence to New Zealand was a beginning of a whole new connection with New Zealand. What happened with the past compressed the maori polynesian as well as society that we are apartheid just for know.
